Mississippi Life Insurance – Can You Afford It?

26.01.2010, Mississippi Life Insurance, chris01 Comments Off

One common question among young people, just starting out their lives in Mississippi is whether or not they should purchase Mississippi life insurance. Freshly graduated and newly in the job market, finances are pretty tight for most young adults. Newly married couples and young families with small children are often pretty strapped for cash, and on the lookout for ways to save money. Many may decide that life insurance is a luxury, and one in which they just cannot afford to partake. The truth is though that not purchasing life insurance can often wind up costing their loved ones more in the long run.

Though it seems criminal, one of the most expensive parts of living is dying. In some cases, a funeral and proper burial can cost more than a hospital delivery of a new baby. For people that pass on unexpectedly or at a young age, this unexpected expense can be devastating. The need to purchase a funeral plot and casket along with mortician’s fees and any medical bills that may have been incurred leading up to the tragedy can leave a young family, or the older relatives of a single young person in financial dire straits. Mississippi life insurance can help soften the financial blow.

It has been found that, many young families that do not have Mississippi life insurance and then have one or the other spouse die often lose the family home and go into serious financial troubles immediately following the unexpected death. The surviving spouse and any children find their lives radically changed, as they are forced to sell their family home and give up dreams such as a college education. Often the cost of the funeral will eat up all of their savings and then some. Even older, more established families can have their financial world rocked by the unexpected and unplanned cost of burying a child.

Buying life insurance in Mississippi helps safeguard your family from impending financial doom, by providing them with funds for a worst case scenario. By purchasing a lower cost term life insurance policy, young families can help protect the financial security of their spouse and children for the short term. People should purchase the greatest amount of insurance that they can afford, to provide the most possible financial stability for their survivors in the event of the worst coming to pass. Even if you never need it, it is not worth it to take the chance of not having it.

Mississippi Life Insurance – Whole Life and Universal Options

15.12.2009, Mississippi Life Insurance, chris01 No Comments »

There is a difference in permanent Mississippi life insurance policies. Whole Life insurance is different from Term life insurance in that it does not expire or need to be renewed. It guarantees that the benefits are paid upon the natural death of the policy holder to the specified beneficiaries. Mississippi life insurance Whole Life policies also carry a cash value, which means they can be used as assets to take out a loan against if needed. They are often used to pay off credit card debt, education loans or medical expenses. Premiums are paid in consistent intervals, monthly, quarterly or annually, to keep the policy active. Death benefits are not taxable, but the life insurance policy is.

Many people are hesitant to purchase Whole Life insurance when they get a quote. It is often more expensive than a Term Life plan. Often the rates increase as the policy holder gets older. This type of policy is often considered more of an investment plan. It can provide tax deferred savings and profit from investment funds. Universal life coverage is relatively new. It provides more flexibility for payment of premiums and offers the insured a possible higher rate of return than Whole Life policies. This makes it attractive to many more people than other types of Mississippi life insurance policies.

Though life insurance in Mississippi is considered an investment for your family’s future, many people are also becoming more actively involved in other types of investing. Real Estate investments have increased significantly in recent years as Mississippi property values soar. Wooded areas in the northern part of the state are becoming more developed. The subtropical climate and mild winters are attracting vacationers and second home owners from all over the world. Many areas of the Gulf Coast region that have always held small communities are growing and becoming more popular. This means an increase in luxury condominiums and seaside resorts.

Most people do not have enough Mississippi life insurance coverage. Poor planning could put your family at risk if you were to die suddenly. Selecting the proper life insurance policy will take some research and planning. If you are in a higher tax bracket, a Whole Life policy due to the tax deferred savings option may be appropriate. Consider how much your family needs to pay for burial and funeral services, the amount of debt you are carrying and what it will take to keep your home.

Mississippi Car Insurance – Comprehensive Coverage

09.12.2009, Mississippi Car Insurance, Mississippi Home Insurance, chris01 No Comments »

Flooding, tornadoes and hurricanes have been the cause of millions of dollars in property damage over the last few years. When considering a Mississippi car insurance policy that includes comprehensive coverage, it is advisable to weigh the cost of the annual policy versus the cost of replacing the vehicle out of pocket. If you are leasing your car, or if you took out a loan to finance its purchase, the bank may require this type of policy for the entire length of the loan. Residents of coastal states run the highest risk of vehicle damage due to storms.

More often than not, insurers will recommend comprehensive coverage. Storm damage may be the first thing you think about when considering a Mississippi car insurance policy that includes comprehensive coverage. However, other circumstances are also covered. For many city dwellers and suburbanites, auto damage due to theft is a common occurrence. Sometimes the entire car is taken. If it is recovered there is often damage that costs more to fix than it would be to replace it. At other times, windows are broken, upholstery ripped and electronics such as built-in CD and DVD players are removed.

Some comprehensive policies will also cover items that were in the vehicle at the time of the theft, such as laptops or smart phones. If you live in a rural Mississippi area, falling tree branches and collisions with wildlife are not unusual. Whether the vehicle is moving or parked at the time of the damage, comprehensive policies that are included with Mississippi car insurance will cover the cost of repairs or a replacement vehicle if needed. Since more than half of the state of Mississippi is forested, this type of damage is typical for many residents. The northern part of the state gets snow and ice during the winter.

These can be significant threats to vehicles. If you have a rental car reimbursement rider, a rental car will be paid for while the damage is being repaired. When getting quotes for Mississippi car insurance, don’t be surprised if you see activity on your credit report. Insurers take many factors into consideration, including a driver’s credit rating when quoting premium pricing. Your current motor vehicle record, age and condition of the vehicle as well as your overall insurance score will also affect the rate.

This will help them tailor a product to fit your exact needs. Another way people find life insurance in Mississippi is through their employer. These plans are usually for basic coverage only. As they are provided at the employer’s expense, they are only one to two times the average annual base salary. This is appropriate for a supplemental plan, or for individuals that are single with a low debt ratio. If your employer doesn’t offer group life insurance plans, see if you can purchase one through them. The advantage to working through your employer is that the premiums can be automatically deducted from your paycheck.

There are many companies that allow the selection of Mississippi life insurance online. Once the information about income levels, dollar amounts and debt ratios are answered you can be enrolled. The sites of reputable insurance agencies often advise that you will receive a phone call from one of their representatives to confirm the information. This provides a blend of online convenience with the expertise of a local professional agent. Purchasing the right life insurance in Mississippi is an important decision. Online research, asking questions and discussing the options and concerns with family members is the best way to ensure they are taken care of when you are no longer able to help. To make sure the product you purchase continues to meet your needs, it is advisable to review your policy annually. If circumstances have changed since the policy was created, it can be updated.

Mississippi Auto Insurance – Policy Premium Factors

09.12.2009, Mississippi auto insurance, chris01 1 Comment »

It is a legal requirement to carry Mississippi auto insurance on all passenger vehicles registered in the state. The cost of the insurance policy depends on many different things. The lower the risk the driver represents, the lower the annual premiums will be. Some of the risk is based on the type of vehicle. Other risk factors are based on the driver. The safety features on the vehicle, crash test results and average repair costs are all taken into consideration. The risk is also calculated based on how many miles are driven each month.

The rate will be different for drivers that drive a hundred miles, versus those who drive several hundred miles. Driver risk factors are assessed by statistical averages as well as specific driving records. Young drivers and very old drivers statistically have more accidents. Men have more accidents than women. As a result, Mississippi auto insurance rates may be higher for these than for other groups. Vehicles that are classified as sports cars and those models that are stolen most frequently may have somewhat higher rates than sedans or base model vehicles, with few or no “optional extras”.

The number of accidents a driver has, as well as the type of vehicle will have some bearing on the premium paid for auto insurance in Mississippi. The lowest point in the state is the Gulf Coast region. Besides the Mississippi river, there are several other rivers that run through the state. These include the Tombigbee, the Yazoo, Pearl River and Big Black River. Flooding is one of the primary ecological issues that drivers must learn how to handle when driving in the state. Seasonal flooding is a significant risk every year, from December to June. The Mississippi state levee system has been expanded several times since its creation in the 19th century.

Despite the fact that they have helped reduce flood damage, it has been proven that this system, as well as continued development of the land has adversely affected the wetlands and forests. There are state and local government groups that are trying to find a balance between protecting the environment, and reducing the risk for the people who live there. There are many options available to tailor Mississippi auto insurance to meet each driver’s needs. Comprehensive coverage will help cover the costs of repair if the vehicle is damaged in a non-collision accident.

Welecome Brandon, MS

“I thought my first article I wrote for a local paper would be a good start for my blogs, keep in mind that this article was written over a year ago so dates and events occured in the past.”

Brandon takes a step in the right direction towards revitalization

Brandon has a new Alfa Insurance agent in a not so new location. Alfa agent, Chris Woods’ office is located at 311 E. Government St., which is at the intersection of Government St. and Louis Wilson Dr. This is no ordinary office, oh no, it’s been a part of Brandon for a long time. The Alfa office was once a residential home built back in 1948 and is now part of the historical district. While the outside if the building looks new to match the other recently constructed building’s in the professional office park called The Cove. The inside of the building is like taking a step back in time. Chris says he is ecstatic to offer his expert services out of a building with so much history. Chris has been a resident of Brandon for quite some time himself, being a graduate of Brandon High school in 1998.
Chris was asked what made him want to be an insurance agent, he replied well there are many reason, first being that I really just enjoy helping people and the other is that it seems to run in the family, my uncle is an insurance agent in Paris, TN and my dad is a partner in a local Insurance adjusting company which, I worked with prior to becoming an insurance agent.
Is there anything that sets you apart from the other agents in town “Well I cant speak for them but, I can tell you what I do offer, I offer a 100% guarantee that I will provide you with best service to my ability and that you will not just be a number to me, you will be a friend first and then a client and, I will always be accessible to my insured, heck my cell phone number is on all my business cards so there you go.”
What would you say is the most important part of insurance “I would have to say hands down it would be life insurance, now don’t get me wrong auto and home insurance is very important but it is also required by the lenders so people know its required so they buy it but, somehow the most important purchase in a persons life gets overlooked, that being life insurance. Now there are many different reasons people don’t buy life insurance to many for me to list but, some of the main reason; are not knowing about it, thinking they don’t have the money for it, but the main reason is people think they don’t need it right now. The best way for me to explain the need to have life insurance as soon as possible is through the Life-Saver analogy “Imagine I’m a Life-Saver float salesman and I come to your office one morning and try to sell Life-Saver float. You would think I was pretty silly, wouldn’t you? Because you don’t need a Life-Saver float. But let’s imagine you decide to go fishing out on the reservoir, a storm comes up, the boat capsizes and you are in the water fully clothed struggling for buoyancy. What would you say if I shouted from the shore HEY YOU WANNA BUY A LIFE-SAVER FLOAT? You would probably want to buy one. The trouble would be that I couldn’t make the delivery under those circumstances. Now, I can’t read the future and I don’t think you can but I can predict one thing: Some day, you are going fishing, we just don’t know when. It may be this afternoon, next week, next month or years from now but some day from this moment forward you are going to capsize and you are going to be in the water struggling.”

You seem very passionate about insurance “I am because it is so much more than a piece of paper to me, it’s a protector that never sleeps and provides you with piece of mind, which allows you to enjoy the rest of your life without having to worry about your home, automobile or if your family will be taking care of properly after your gone.”

Chris’ Alfa Insurance Agency is currently open for business but he is planning a grand opening in June which will have drinks, snacks, and literature on his multi-line of insurance products which include but are not limited to Auto, Home, Life & Loans. He encourages anyone who has any questions or concerns regarding just how well protected they actually are to give him a call at 601-825-9995 or just stop by because he is always read to listen and help someone tailor fit the correct insurance coverage’s to their needs.
